OS Max EX 46VF-H ENGINE.

Brand new in box OS Max EX 46VF-H engine.

I’m fairly certain that these engines were produced only for the Japanese domestic market, as the *uncoated instructions are in Japanese only and the engine’s prevalence in the marketplace is rare.
*All other OS instructions that I have seen are printed on coated stock.
**These instructions are not a photocopy, they are as supplied from factory.

This engine shares the same crankcase with the 46VF, 46VR, 46VR-P and 46VR-M.
It also uses the same 4D carb, rear cover and probably wrist pin and con rod (and may share it's head with the 46SF-H) however that is where any similarity ends with the V series.
Note the box design is not from the FSR/VF/VR period, but from the later SF period.
The engine does appear on the OS engines 1936-2020  timeline in 1986, but is pictured on a display stand, possibly alluding to it’s exclusivity.

The front housing is uniquely machined, unlike any other V engine housing, including the VR-M, although I guess that it is otherwise identical and interchangeable.
However,  it is the crankshaft itself that needs to have the altered intake port timing to allow for the carb’s 180 degree positioning (Yes this is the factory orientation of the front housing)
Note also that the crank uses a woodruff key, instead of a tapered collet or machined flat face to locate the prop driver, further isolating it from its cousins.
The biggest variation however, is the ringed piston, which does not exist on any other V series engine, which are all ABC. (or ABN)

This is a rare OS engine indeed, purchased new in Japan and never mounted or run.
NB: The keen eye may notice the larger than usual holes in the 4D carb throttle arm, but you will also see that they are the same size as the photo on the instruction sheet, so they have not been enlarged by owner.
