Here are 6 old photos of the Holt and Marcy families of Connecticut and New York. First there is a cabinet card photo of a woman in a dark color dress, that was taken by Brainerd of Rome, N. Y. On the back she is identified as Sylvia Mix Marcy (Mother of Frank Ransom Marcy). The next three are I believe tintype photos, all of Bill Henry Holt at different ages. One is a very tiny photo that has Bill Henry Holt written under it and on the back is written Daddy's step father. The second one shows a man in a suit with white shirt, clean shaven with dark hair, above the oval photo is written Bill Henry Holt, on the back is written Daddys Stepfather and above the newspaper piece that is glued to the back is written W. H. Holt in a much older signature. The third one of these shows the man in a suit, with dark hair, but this time he has a goatee. Again, written above the oval photo is Bill Henry Holt, and then on the back is written Grandpa Daddys Step father Sylvia Mix Marcy 2nd Husband. Then there is a CDV photo of an older couple sitting together. On the back of this photo is written Wm. Holt M.B.P. Holt Bill Henry's Father and Mother Daddy's stepfathers parents. The last photo is another that I think is a tintype photo, a small oval photo of an older man. Written below the photo is Uncle Oliver of Holts family. This one has nothing written on the back of it. I did some research and found that Sylvia Mix (1843-1902) was the wife of John Marcy, in the 1880 census for Rome, NY, John is listed as a foreman in a brass mill, age 35 born in Connecticut, Silvia is age 34, keeping house, born in New York, and they have 3 children; Jarry, 12 works in brass mill, Silvia, 9 and Frank R., 5. Frank Ransom Marcy, mentioned on the one photo was born in 1874 and died in 1939 in Poughkeepsie, NY. However, his obituary names him as John F. Marcy, son of John and Sylvia Marcy, and he was survived by his wife Isabella, two sons and two daughters. His tombstone, which he shares with his wife, Isabella, in Manchester Rural Cemetery lists his name as Frank R. Marcy. Frank's father died, sometime between the 1880 census and 1900, because in the 1900 census for Willington, Tolland Co., Connecticut, Sylvia is now married to William H. Holt, age 55 and a farmer, the only one of her 6 remaining children still living that is living with them is Frank who is now 25. Sylvia died in 1902 and is buried in Old Willington Hill Cemetery. William Henry Holt was born in 1844, the son of William & Mary Holt. In the 1870 census for Willington, CT, William is living with his parents, William, 59, a farmer, Mary, 48, keeping house and William, 25 a farm laborer. His first wife was Josephine James; they had 3 children that I could fine record of. She died in 1891 and is buried in Old Willington Hill Cemetery. Sometime afterward he married Sylvia Mix Marcy. William and Sylvia did not have any children. William died in 1923 and is also buried in Old Willington Hill Cemetery. As for Oliver Holt, I found an Oliver Holt (1775 - 1846), son of Isaac & Sarah Holt buried in Old Willington Hill Cemetery along with his wife Patty Holt. I don't know if this is the same Oliver who is listed as Uncle Oliver of Holt's family in the photo or not. The cabinet card photo is clear but has some marks on it and some rough spots around the edges and corners. The CDV is faded a bit and has marks on it, the back of it is soiled more. The other 4 are darker, but I think that is how they were developed, the type of photo they are. They also have some marks and the cardboard they are mounted in has soiling and stains.
