Antique George III Sterling Silver Shell Bowl Salt Spoon – London 1792 – Thomas Wallis II

A charming late-18th-century English sterling silver salt spoon dating from the reign of George III.

The spoon has a beautifully formed scallop-shell bowl with a simple slender Old English-style handle.

The reverse of the handle carries period silver hallmarks including the lion passant, lower-case “r” date letter for 1792, and the George III duty head. The maker’s mark appears to read “TW”, consistent with Thomas Wallis II, a recorded London silversmith and flatware maker working during this period.

The handle terminal is engraved with the initials “A H”, separated by a small decorative saltire-style device with dots in the four angles.
