Review:

If you are searching for a top notch Christian theologian, then this classic dogmatics series by Francis Pieper is for you. The subjects are timely and timeless. Dr. Pieper presents the complete doctrines of the Church as taken from the Bible AS GOD'S WORD. Francis Pieper's teaching of Law and Gospel, as taught in Holy Scripture, is nothing less than outstanding. He quite successfully juxtaposes his three volume series with the major Christian traditions (Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, and Anglican.) He uses a near encyclopedia of major theologians and famous intellectuals (believers and unbelievers.) to flesh out the five major confessions mentioned above. He discusses the major religions and philosophies in the world, and talks at length about the Enlightenment and it's continuing impact on the Church and the life of believers. Volume 1 (overview) was actually written last. Volume 2 was written first, then volume 3; an index for all three is also available (vol. 4.) If you stay with Francis Pieper's dogmatics (i. e. don't just sample or skim), you will receive a multitude of blessings and understandings, especially a crystal clear presentation of the Law and the Gospel.
