She started her acting career on the Broadway stage in New York, and progressed to appearing in movies, becoming one of Hollywood's all-time leading ladies. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress as heiress Ellen "Ellie" Andrews in director Frank Capra's "It Happened One Night." Her co-star,Clark Gable, won the award for Best Actor. The film itself was honored as Best Picture of the Year
