Obverse: Known as a double reverse type, the obverse is considered to show a beaded devolved Roman standard enclosing right angles and a central annulet

Reverse: Central cross with pellets in angles blundered lettering

Size and Weight: 12mm, 1.34g

Features and Provenance: The influence of Roman coinage is very evident in early Anglo Saxon coins, especially those produced on the continent;  the example here depicts a Roman standard on the reverse. A great number of varieties and patterns exist. These coins originated in the Rhineland and spread, with others, to Britain to fill a monetary void.
