Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic antique German Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) serving tray manufactured by the highly collectible metalsmith Carl Deffner of Esslingen, Germany, dating to circa 1900–1910.This large, elegant tray perfectly showcases the German Secessionist era, combining early geometric machine-pressed fluting along the rim with stunning Neo-Classical / Louis XVI Revival handles. The handles feature crisp parallel fluting, circular rosettes, and hanging laurel leaf garlands. The reverse rim is clearly stamped with the authentic Carl Deffner hallmark—the iconic crossed arrows / swords within a shield mark (shown in photos).Condition Report:This piece features a magnificent, honest, century-old aged patina. Over decades of use, the original silver-nickel plating on the flat interior surface has completely polished down to reveal the gorgeous, warm underlying golden brass base. The remaining plating is still visible on the raised outer rim, fluting, and handles, creating a highly desirable two-tone mixed-metal look. There are minor, typical scattered dark spots, surface scratches, and tiny green verdigris oxidation flecks consistent with age and authenticity. I have left the tray exactly as found in its original antique state to preserve its value for the buyer. No cracks, major dents, or structural repairs. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the condition description. A truly exceptional piece of turn-of-the-century European metalwork for any collector!
