Vintage Ampex Model 1461 stereo reel-to-reel system with its matching nesting speakers, original box and original documentation.

I purchased this system from its original owner, who stated that it had remained sealed in storage until they took it out to sell. They opened the packaging at that time and installed the tape/reel that had been packed with the system.

The Ampex 1461 was a premium home stereo recorder of the late 1960s, featuring automatic reverse, a four-head tape system, dual-capstan drive, automatic threading, tape monitoring, sound-with-sound and three-speed operation. The matching stereo speakers were designed to nest inside the recorder cabinet for storage and transport.

The recorder and speakers have survived in very nice overall condition for their age. They are not perfect and do show some normal cosmetic/storage wear from having been moved between storage locations over the years.

The original outer box is included but shows considerably more storage wear than the equipment itself, including dirt and moisture-related damage. I do not see corresponding moisture damage on the recorder itself.

Because this machine spent so many years in storage, I have chosen not to power it on simply for the purpose of selling it. It is therefore being sold as untested, with no claim being made about current electronic or mechanical operation.
