Out of print 1989 RCA Gold Seal CD of Sergei
Rachmaninoff playing 16 of his own works, plus his transcriptions of
pieces by Bach, Mendelssohn, Mussorgsky, Kreisler, Schubert,
Tchaikovsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov, in remasterings of recordings made
between 1925 and 1942. Even the latest of them are still quite low-fi,
as they were originally recorded on 78s, but it's Sergei's prodigious
technique that makes them of interest, not the audio quality. His
massive hands could span a 12th, even a 13th -- which reminds me of one
of my favorite double dactyls:
