Entitled the “Peace and Reconstruction” issue, the cover of the October 1945 issue of British Vogue went on to become one of the most enduring in the magazine’s history, in spite of its rather impromptu origin. James de Holden-Stone, the then assistant art director, painted the sky scene hurriedly as peacetime celebrations began in Europe, due to a lack of time for the editorial team to commission a photographer to meet the print deadline. 

This is an ex binder copy which has been separated from the other copies and has had a new plastic spine fitted to preserve it. This can be seen to the bottom of the cover where the publishers originally trimmed them through the writing at the bottom.

These copies are original. Slightly smaller in height as they are trimmed at source to get them into the binders but it does keep them very clean and well preserved.
