A striking Art Deco black amethyst glass sugar bowl, formed with strong geometric lines and enriched with an applied sterling silver overlay of stylised floral, foliate and scrolling ornament.

In ordinary light the glass appears almost black, giving the bowl a dramatic, highly polished presence. Under strong transmitted light, however, the body reveals its underlying deep purple to amethyst tone, a characteristic that adds considerable visual interest and depth to the piece.

The form is distinctly architectural. A faceted hexagonal body rises from a stepped hexagonal foot, while two angular open handles project symmetrically from the sides. Their sharply defined geometry gives the bowl a particularly strong Art Deco silhouette and contrasts beautifully with the more flowing silver decoration.

The applied silver overlay is arranged across the principal panels in elaborate symmetrical compositions.
