📌 DESCRIPTION

This substantial 8th Psychological Operations Group (Airborne) “Phantom Knights” challenge coin stands apart through its combination of group identity and a COL + CSM command-team “For Excellence” recognition configuration. Rather than a basic unit design, both sides bring together PSYOP, command-team leadership, and airborne imagery in an oversized format with significant visual presence.

The obverse bears “8th Psychological Operations Group [Airborne]” and “Phantom Knights” surrounding the prominent black knight, globe grid, and gold lightning bolt. The knight is a long-recognized symbol within the Psychological Operations community, while the globe and lightning imagery reinforce the worldwide reach and communications focus associated with the PSYOP mission.

The reverse is especially detailed. At center is the 8th Psychological Operations Group distinctive unit insignia bearing the “Decisive Influence” motto. Its heraldic elements include the Sgian Dubh, shofar, torch, and lightning imagery associated with the group’s mission and identity. Surrounding the insignia are the Colonel eagle and Command Sergeant Major rank insignia, Master Parachutist Badge, an 8th Group flag, additional airborne imagery, and “FOR EXCELLENCE.” Together, these elements give the coin a strong command-team recognition character and make it particularly relevant to collectors of PSYOP and Army Special Operations material.

At approximately 2.38 inches, this is a substantial coin with enough surface area for the layered insignia, lettering, relief, and contrasting enamel work to remain individually recognizable. Its naturally aged exposed-metal finish and evidence of prior handling give this example the appearance of an earlier collector-circulated piece rather than a recent reproduction or modern reissue.

🧭 CONDITION & PHOTO NOTES

This oversized 8th Psychological Operations Group (Airborne) coin retains bold enamel color, well-defined raised insignia, clear lettering, and strong design detail, with natural finish variation, scattered handling marks, and wear across portions of the exposed silver-tone rim and fields visible in the photos. The Phantom Knights artwork, Decisive Influence insignia, Colonel eagle and CSM rank insignia, and airborne imagery remain well defined and highly displayable.

The naturally aged exposed-metal finish and prior-handling wear complement the coin’s earlier appearance rather than presenting like a newly made example. The black, green, white, and gold enamel remains visually strong across both sides, providing excellent contrast against the antiqued silver-tone metal.

As with most pre-owned collectible challenge coins, light evidence of handling, display, storage, or age may be present. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description and provide the best representation of the exact coin you will receive.

📸 Photos are taken under high-intensity lighting to highlight fine details, sculpting, and finish. This lighting may reveal minor surface characteristics that are often less noticeable during normal display.
