Wonderful original antique photograph of a young boy identified on the reverse as Frank Weiser, posed in an early 20th-century photographer's studio.
Frank is dressed in an especially charming period outfit consisting of a double-breasted coat, bow tie, dark gloves, trousers and lace-up boots. He wears a large brimmed hat and holds a violin case or traveling case in one hand, giving the portrait a delightful young traveler appearance.
The studio setting includes an ornate decorative pedestal and painted architectural backdrop. The photograph is presented behind an oval opening in a textured dark gray card mount.
The reverse is handwritten in red ink:
“Frank Weiser”
There also appears to be a very faint photographer's blind stamp or impressed mark on the reverse of the mount. Unfortunately, it is too faint to decipher with confidence, so the photographer and studio location remain unidentified.
Based on the clothing, photographic style and presentation mount, the portrait likely dates to approximately the early 1900s, circa 1900–1910.
Approximate overall size: 6" x 8"
A particularly appealing identified antique childhood portrait with wonderful period details. The hat, gloves and case give this photograph considerably more character than a standard studio portrait and should appeal to collectors of antique photography, children's fashion, travel imagery and identified family photographs.
