An exceptionally rare antique Norwegian glass fishing float from AASNÆS Glassworks, featuring the remarkable “Pyramid” pontil variation.

The large applied pontil plate carries five prominent raised glass peaks, creating one of the most unusual and sculptural pontil designs found on early Norwegian floats. The float is handmade in attractive pale sea-green glass and filled with large bubbles, stretched inclusions and wonderful irregularities from the original production process.

Aasnæs Glassworks operated in Namdalseid, Norway, from 1813 to 1883 and produced glass fishing floats from approximately the 1840s until 1881. This is therefore a genuine piece of Norwegian maritime history dating from the 19th century.

The float retains excellent character from its long working life, including honest surface wear and traces of maritime use. A very difficult AASNÆS variant to obtain and a superb display piece for an advanced collection of European or Scandinavian glass fishing floats.
