Reinhard Heydrich was one of the most ruthless of Hitler's henchmen. He joined the German Navy in 1922 but, in 1931, he was cashiered for 'womanising'. Joining the SS, under the auspices of Heinrich Himmler he rose rapidly through the ranks and created the bogus incident on the Polish border which precipitated WWII. Put in charge of the "Final Solution", he became 'Protector' of the annexed state of Czechoslovakia. He was assassinated in Prague by Resistance fighters.

Whiting examines the various theories as to who was behind the plot and probably comes as close as anyone ever will to the truth. His vivid style is admirably suited to the meteoric rise and abrupt demise of this enigmatic but unquestionably most unpleasant character.
