Antique Sterling Silver Windmill Thimble Stern Bros. & Co. * Circa 1900 This little antique thimble has an embossed rim and a band that is engraved all around with scenery. It's unusual for an American thimble in that it has a windmill. It also has houses, a bridge and a sailboat. The cartouche is marked with the anchor trademark for Stern Bros. & Co., "Sterling" and the size (8). There is also one of their lettered logos, but I can't tell if it's the "G" for Goldsmith, Stern & Co. or the "S" for Stern Bros. It has no
personalization. The condition is excellent, crisp and in round with no
holes, dents or other damage. It is shown
on p. 133 (Plate 7) of Gay Ann Rogers' book American
Silver Thimbles. I've not had this thimble before.
