Good home wanted for type MP16  No 27756 1914/22 J Hudson's Issued London Metropolitan Police Whistle 

made in solid nickel. 1914/1922

Over 110 years old

There are many whistles listed on ebay as police whistles,
to have been actually issued to London's Metropolitan Police,
to your actual London Bobbie, it has to say Metropolitan Police on it
and not just the Metropolitan.
You could buy Metropolitans across shop counters anywhere.
AND (in the case of London) 99.9% have to have a number stamped on it.

Made by J Hudson in Hockley Birmingham. 3 and 1/4 inches long.

Lovely colour and good clear stamping

This is solid nickel it will polish up beautifully!
Slight dint over 244, and space between window and diaphragm a little cramped, just to the left of the 2 , I tried to photograph that but it was so slight it wouldn’t show up!

This whistle

Patent straight, no full stop after 244

top 2 arms of E in POLICE shorter than the bottom, 

cap stamped PATENT 5727.08.

slight V at bottom of loop (this is always very difficult to discern but everything else adds up)

that makes it an MP16 1914/1922 according to Martyn's book

It's good for the whistle to have a good rub down with it's new owner

It makes it feel at home.

Otherwise wear consistent with age, surface dints and scratches etc,
all clearly visible on photos.

POST & PACKING

I used to take a day off from the coal mine to post this stuff,

wrapping and lugging down to the post office

and for the pleasure of hanging about in a queue

for up to 45 minutes.

Plus if it’s my wife’s turn to wear the clogs

for her shift down the mine

I have to do the 18 mile round trip in bare feet.

That’s not as bad as it sounds

because I’ve trained myself to pick up fag ends between my toes.

anyway I let Ebay calculate the postage, it was nice to add a few bob on for the hassle of P&P

and Ebay make the money on the postage

by a 3 year old wearing boxing gloves - that’ll be me.
