A Fine Antique Dutch Solid Silver Loderein/Vinaigrette
This is a Fine Antique Dutch Solid Silver Loderein/Vinaigrette
With Repousse decoration & a vacant sheild cartouche
It has a plaque to the top lid which reads "LEKKER VAN REUK" which translates to "Pleasant of Scent"
These pocket-sized silver boxes were used by wealthy individuals to carry sponges soaked in strong perfumes or aromatic smelling salts to ward off foul urban odors and prevent fainting
It is hallmarked to the base & around the sides with the date letter O for 1848
It is in good condition with just light age related wear, please see photos
