11-Piece Lot: Original Vintage 8x10 Railroad Photographs by Duane A. Blink
This is a rare, historical, and highly collectible group of 11 original, large-format 8x10 inch black and white railroad photographs from the mid-20th century.
The collection was professionally shot and printed by Duane A. Blink, a respected regional name in Chicagoland rail photography.
Subject: Multiple, detailed action shots capturing the chaotic aftermath and complex cleanup of a Union Pacific (UP) freight train derailment.
Details: Images show severely derailed Union Pacific boxcars (one clearly labeled "UNION PACIFIC"), other freight cars, and scenes of railroad crews using heavy equipment, including a large crane, during the recovery operation.
Locomotive Wreckage: Several photos feature a heavily damaged diesel passenger locomotive (likely an EMD E-unit) that was involved in the wreck, providing dramatic and historical documentation.
Subject: A beautiful, dark, close-up photograph of the distinctive rounded nose and cab of a Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) EMD E-unit passenger locomotive, clearly showing the iconic B&O Capitol Dome logo.
The reverse of several photos contains the recognizable purple stamp of the photographer: PHOTO BY: DUANE A. BLINK, 16027 SO. COTTAGE GR. SOUTH HOLLAND, ILL. This stamp confirms the authenticity.
NOTE ON RARITY: These prints represent a unique, scarce collection from a regional photographer whose work is not widely available online.
CONDITION ARTIFACT: The purple stamp ink shows minor bleed-through (a faint reverse image) on the front of the print in the corresponding corner. This is a common, verifiable artifact of the original vintage marking process and is fully disclosed. Prints also exhibit a slight curl typical of vintage photos.
