A copy of Porcelain Pagodas and Palaces of Jade A. E. Grantham, owned by the Oregonian, Mary Wortman, and featuring her custom bookplate. Miss Wortman, born in the 1870s, was one of the very first women to be elected to the American Institute of Architects in 1924. She was subsequently appointed Chairman of the Portland Art Commission, and in the 1930s was a delegate to the International Congress of Architects in Budapest. In the 1920s, she became one of the first air travelers to fly from London to Paris, and traveled extensively through Europe and Turkey. In Portland she gave lectures on art at Portland State. And ultimately left numerous pieces of Japanese and Chinese art to the Portland Art Museum.
A pencil mark in this copy of Porcelain Pagodas notes that it was also a bequest from her to the Art Museum Library in 1944.
