Im Jahr 2401 wurde die Intrepid entsandt, um die USS Titan am Rande des Föderationsraums abzufangen, nachdem diese von einem nicht genehmigten Ausflug ins Ryton-System zurückgekehrt war. An Bord befand sich Commander Ro Laren mit dem Befehl, Admiral Jean-Luc Picard und Captain William T. Riker wegen möglicher Vorwürfe des Hochverrats zu befragen und Jack Crusher in Gewahrsam zu nehmen. Unterdessen wurde der Großteil der Besatzung der Titan zur Neuzuweisung auf die Intrepid verlegt.
Nachdem Ro sich vergewissert hatte, dass Picard nicht durch einen Wechselbalg ersetzt worden war, vertraute sie ihm ihre Befürchtungen hinsichtlich einer weitreichenden Unterwanderung der Sternenflotte durch Wechselbalge an und erklärte, dass sie keinem der Besatzungsmitglieder auf der Intrepid vertraute. Sie machte sich mit ihrem Shuttle auf den Rückweg zur Intrepid, doch unterwegs platzierten Wechselbalg-Agenten eine Bombe an Bord, bevor sie sich wegbeamteten. Da es keine andere Möglichkeit gab, steuerte Ro das Shuttle in die Nähe der Backbordgondel der „Intrepid“, damit die Bombenexplosion auch diese beschädigen würde und der „Titan“ so eine Chance zur Flucht erhielt. Die „Titan“ sprang gerade noch rechtzeitig in den Warp, als die „Intrepid“ Photonentorpedos auf sie abfeuerte. (PIC: „Imposters“).

In 2401, the Intrepid was sent to intercept the USS Titan at the edge of Federation space, following the latter's return from an unauthorized excursion to the Ryton system. It carried aboard Commander Ro Laren with orders to question Admiral Jean-Luc Picard and Captain William T. Riker regarding possible charges of treason against them, and to take Jack Crusher into custody. Meanwhile, most of the Titan's crew was transferred to the Intrepid for reassignment.
After verifying that Picard had not been replaced by a Changeling, Ro confided in him her fears of a widespread Changeling infiltration of Starfleet, and that she trusted none of the personnel on the Intrepid. She proceeded to return to Intrepid on her shuttle, but en route Changeling agents planted a bomb aboard before beaming away. With no other options, Ro piloted the shuttle near the Intrepid's port nacelle so that the bomb explosion would damage it as well, buying the Titan a chance to escape. The Titan warped away just as the Intrepid fired photon torpedoes at it. (PIC: "Imposters").
