If you're only ever going to buy ONE........and if you're like me and like a very primitive (NOT "perfect") hand carved bowl.....then this one may just have everything you're looking for. Hands down my favorite bowl of all the ones we have listed. (I DO have others listed for less money and they are very nice. This one is just in a different league when it comes to Rustic/primitive/character. But PLEASE read the entire description to make SURE it's one you will love.
First of all it has AWESOME weight. It's HEAVY at FIVE and a Half Pounds. Tons of carving marks and even a few of the saw marks left in the wood. EXCELLENT color variations from light to dark. And yes it has some "imperfections (like a 1 1/8" wedge missing from the lip/ Pictured). That stuff just happens during the carving process and in THIS case Rick left it alone because this piece is so primitive that it looked better to simply wax and buff it in to match the surrounding patina (these bowls are MADE to look old).
It's just one of those pieces that SCREAMS primitive HAND carved. THESE are the ones I LOVE because anybody can buy a "wooden bowl" but if you want a truly ONE of a KIND hand carved one with a TON of character and BEAUTIFUL primitive patina the HERE you GO!
The thing that sets our bowls apart is the FINISH. It's not a "dull wood" finish. We have a special aging wax finish that we apply to all of our bowls. It takes an already distressed bowl and makes it look OLD and WARM and very primitive.
And it STAYS that way for the life of the bowl. It is smooth to the touch and it is beautiful.
Rick distressed and waxed it multiple times with our special bees wax formulation to achieve a wonderfully primitive look. It's A Multiple layer process. (and therefore NOT suitable for rolling dough or storing "raw" foods in)
Measures 19 3/4" Long. 11 1/2" wide and it stands 2 7/8" to 3" tall (depending on where you measure because remember......it's a hand carved piece). ALSO note: I've placed a very small 1/2" round rubber "foot" in one corner of the back of the bowl. It doesn't absolutely HAVE to have it, but I added it in that one corner just to level it SLIGHTLY more. This bowl weighs FIVE and a Half Pounds!
Nice piece has been carved out of ONE SOLID Piece of (Mountain Pine) wood. It is smooth to the touch.
It will ship either UPS, Fed Ex or USPS ground advantage depending on your location.
