Up for auction/sale is a magnificent and exceptionally rare 19th-century Norwegian blown glass fishing float (glasskavel) produced by the historic Aasnæs Glassværk (1813–1883), one of Norway's premier early glassworks.

This float features a clearly defined and rare "X" embossed mark on its sealing button, and comes complete with its original hand-knotted hemp rope harness (kavelhue).

Historical Significance

Operating in central Norway from 1813 to 1883, Aasnæs Glassværk was a pioneer in manufacturing glass floats for Northern European fisheries. Floats carrying the rare "X" variant seal—especially in large 8-inch diameters with original period netting—are exceedingly difficult to find on the open market and represent a cornerstone piece for serious maritime glass collectors.
