Superb Victorian sterling silver pint tankard, fully hallmarked for London 1870.
This is a stunning quality silver pint tankard made by the Barnard Brothers in 1870.
The tankard has superb and very finely chased decoration around the top rim above straight sides and it has a band of beading running around the base.
The body of the tankard has beautiful chased and engine turned decoration with a vacant cartouche to the front.
The tankard has fine beading to the handle.
The inside of the tankard is gilded.
The tankard is 4-3/4 inches / 120 mm wide to the back of the handle and it stands 4-1/2 inches / 114 mm tall.
The tankard weighs 234 grams of sterling silver.
The underside has clear hallmarks - lion passant, London mark, duty mark, letter P for 1870 and maker's mark for the Barnard Brothers.
The tankard is in excellent condition.
