This distinctive wulfenite specimen comes from the Ahumada Mine in the Sierra de Los Lamentos mining district of Chihuahua, Mexico. Dark butterscotch-brown wulfenite crystals rise prominently from a pale cream mineral matrix, including one substantial blocky crystal accompanied by smaller sharply defined crystals. The contrast between the geometric crystals, white crystalline formations, dark mineral inclusions and iron-rich brown matrix creates a rugged and highly dimensional specimen with visual interest from every viewing angle.


The Ahumada Mine and surrounding Sierra de Los Lamentos district are recognized among mineral collectors for producing unusually thick tetragonal wulfenite crystals rather than the extremely thin orange blades associated with many other Mexican localities. This example displays the locality’s characteristic blocky crystal form within an attractive natural matrix.

This specimen was held for many years within the private mineral collection of Joseph Simon, founder of Rainbow XLS in Woodland Hills, California. It entered the Traders Loan & Jewelry collection in 2012 following the dispersal of the Joseph Simon mineral collection and has been preserved within the collection since that time. The specimen was formally documented and curated by Traders Loan & Jewelry in 2026.

This is a naturally formed mineral specimen with irregular edges, matrix separations, small cavities and variations created during its original geological formation and collection. The prominent blocky wulfenite crystal and accompanying smaller crystals are clearly visible and display beautifully against the pale matrix.


Wulfenite is naturally soft, delicate and brittle. The specimen should be securely displayed and handled as little as possible to protect the crystals and reduce direct contact. The paper locality label and specimen box show toning and wear from long-term collection storage and remain important parts of the specimen’s documented provenance.
