An antique English, solid 9 carat gold (tests thereabouts) back and front locket pendant; beautifully made, with vitreous enamel design to the front, fine engraved decoration to the back featuring a compass and set square, hinging opening to reveal two locket compartments for photos or other slim mementos.

Both the front and the back panels of this locket are solid gold, the rest is yellow/gilded metal. They were often made in this manner for strength and durability.
CONDITION: All original and very good. Slightest signs of detail wear commensurate with age and use, see pics. One glass missing. DATE/MARKS: Around 1870/80. Not marked. DIMENSIONS: 24 x 20 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter. WEIGHT: Approx. 6.7 grams.
