The rosters in this pamphlet list C&O steam locomotives (and diesels in the last one) that were equipped to handle passenger cars or trains in that they had steam lines for supplying the train/cars with steam, and a communication line for trainmen within the cars to signal the engineer.

Switchers needed this because when they were involved in assembling or adjusting train consists, they had to keep heat and communications open to the cars. Likewise some freight locomotives had to be equipped in this way so as to substitute for regularly assigned passenger power as needed, to operate second sections, and special passenger trains of all types.

The attached rosters were circulated within C&O for general information, and we have assembled several spanning the years 1939-1954. The 1954 roster includes diesels that were passenger-equipped.
