History of Platinum

Founded in 1919, Platinum Pen is one of Japan’s most respected fountain pen manufacturers, renowned for over a century of dedication to craftsmanship, innovation, and writing excellence. As one of Japan’s "Big Three" pen makers alongside Pilot and Sailor, Platinum has earned a reputation for producing writing instruments that combine precision engineering with traditional Japanese artistry.

Throughout its history, Platinum has continually refined the fountain pen experience, developing advanced technologies and meticulously crafted nibs that are admired by writers and collectors around the world. The company is particularly known for its commitment to writing performance, creating pens that offer exceptional reliability, precision, and comfort.

Over the decades, Platinum has introduced many celebrated models, including the iconic #3776 series, while also preserving traditional Japanese techniques through the creation of handcrafted urushi lacquer and maki-e writing instruments. This balance of innovation and heritage has helped establish Platinum as a leading name in fine writing instruments.

platinum #3776 Century Celluloid

The Platinum #3776 Century Celluloid beautifully combines Platinum's renowned writing performance with the timeless elegance of one of the most treasured materials in fountain pen making. Crafted from genuine celluloid, each pen displays remarkable depth, warmth, and luminosity that cannot be fully replicated by modern plastics. As the material catches the light, it reveals subtle variations in color and pattern, giving every pen a unique character.

Built upon Platinum's flagship #3776 Century platform, the Celluloid series retains the model's comfortable balance, classic cigar-shaped design, and exceptional craftsmanship. The result is a fountain pen that not only delivers an outstanding writing experience but also showcases the enduring beauty of traditional materials.

Highly regarded by collectors and enthusiasts alike, the #3776 Century Celluloid represents the perfect harmony of Japanese craftsmanship, premium materials, and timeless design, making it a writing instrument to be appreciated for years to come.

The Sakura Pink finish captures the delicate beauty of Japan's beloved cherry blossoms in full bloom. Soft shades of translucent pink flow gracefully through the celluloid, creating a sense of depth and movement that changes with the light. Every pen features its own unique pattern, ensuring that no two are exactly alike.

Inspired by the fleeting elegance of the sakura season, the warm pink tones evoke feelings of renewal, beauty, and tranquility. The natural luster of genuine celluloid enhances these colors, giving the pen a vibrant yet sophisticated appearance that becomes even more captivating in person.

Elegant without being overly ornate, the Sakura Pink finish perfectly complements the timeless design of the #3776 Century, making it a beautiful choice for writers and collectors who appreciate both traditional craftsmanship and the enduring charm of Japanese aesthetics.

Platinum #3776 Century 14K Gold Nib

The 14K gold nib of the Platinum #3776 Century Celluloid is the result of decades of refinement, carrying forward the celebrated writing characteristics of the original #3776 while incorporating Platinum's modern craftsmanship. Handcrafted in Japan, it is designed to deliver exceptional precision, consistency, and control with every stroke.

The nib glides smoothly across the page with a steady, reliable flow of ink, offering the signature tactile feedback that Platinum enthusiasts have come to appreciate. Rather than feeling overly soft, it provides a firm yet responsive writing experience, allowing for crisp, well-defined lines and excellent control during both everyday writing and longer sessions.

Perfectly matched to the warmth and elegance of the celluloid body, the 14K gold nib creates a balanced and refined writing experience. Its dependable performance, precise feel, and meticulous finishing make it the ideal complement to one of Platinum's most beautiful and collectible fountain pen series, offering a writing experience that is both timeless and distinctly Japanese.

Worldwide Shipping & Customs

2026 Update

⚠ Attention: High-Duty Regions (LATAM)

For buyers in the following regions, import fees in 2026 are significantly higher than the global average. These fees are determined by your government and are not included in the shipping price.

🇧🇷 BRAZIL: Combined taxes (II, PIS/COFINS, and ICMS) often reach 60–80% of the total value. A valid CPF (Tax ID) is strictly required for all shipments.

🇨🇱 CHILE: The duty-free threshold is only $30 USD. Orders above this are subject to 6% duty + 19% VAT on the total cost (including shipping).

🇦🇷 ARGENTINA: Strict "door-to-door" regulations apply. Buyers may need to confirm receipt on the AFIP website to clear customs.

Global Shipping Status

USA: Standard Shipping via Japan Post remains suspended. All US-bound orders ship via Express Courier (DDP) to comply with current US import regulations.

TURKEY: All orders ship via Japan Post EMS ($30 USD). Turkish customs require a Customs Broker; these fees are the buyer's responsibility and are non-refundable if the package is rejected.

RESTRICTED: We are currently unable to deliver to Russia, North Korea, Belarus, or Ukraine.

Express-Only Regions — $75 USD Flat Rate

Due to current logistics challenges, shipping to the following countries is $75 USD via Express Shipping by default:

Yemen, Cyprus, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, UAE, Oman, Venezuela, Qatar, Egypt.

For US Customers: All-Inclusive (DDP)

As of late 2025, the US "Duty-Free" allowance was suspended. To ensure a seamless delivery:

Final Price Guarantee: Your checkout total includes the 20% US Import Duty, the $20 Government Surcharge, and all brokerage fees.

No Surprise Bills: You will not receive an invoice from the courier (UPS/DHL) for additional taxes.

For International Customers (Non-US): Standard (DDU)

We ship Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) for all other countries.

Buyer Responsibility: You are responsible for local VAT, GST, and duties.

Payment Tip: Pay your duties online via the link sent by the carrier (UPS/DHL) to avoid the $12.00 in-person surcharge (ICOD fee) and speed up delivery by 1–2 days.

Shipping Transparency & Online Payment

100% Prepaid Transport: We pay 100% of the international transport fees to the carrier (UPS, DHL, or Japan Post) before your item leaves Japan. In 99% of cases, your order will reach your door with no further delivery fees — only government duties apply.

How to Pay Your Customs Duties: When your package arrives in your country, the carrier (UPS or DHL) will contact you via SMS or Email with a payment link. We strongly recommend paying online through the official carrier website immediately.

Avoid "Payment on Delivery" Surcharges:

›  UPS "ICOD" Fee: UPS now charges an additional $12.00 surcharge for import charges collected at the door. This fee is waived if you pay online.

›  DHL Disbursement Savings: DHL offers a discounted processing rate for duties paid via their "On Demand Delivery" portal. Paying in person results in a higher "Cash Handling" fee.

›  Japan Post EMS: Your local post office (e.g., USPS) may charge a small nominal fee ($5–$10) for "Postage Due" or final-mile processing.

Important Policies

›  Address: Please input your shipping address in the English alphabet only.

›  Combined Shipping: We offer combined shipping for up to 10 items purchased within 3 days.

›  Customs Refusal: If a package is returned because customs fees were not paid, we will refund the order minus the cost of two-way shipping (to and from your country) and any unpaid fees.
