•  The Varieties Theatre was built and rebuilt three times between 1849 and 1871 at two different addresses in New Orleans. This broadside can be dated by the theatre name, Varieties Theatre, its address Gravier Street and its Manager, W.R. Floyd to 1867. 
• The history is as follows:
• 1849: the first theatre was located at corner of Gravier Street and Varieties Alley and named Placide's Varieties Theatre. It burned down in November 1854. 
• In December 1855, the theatre was rebuilt at the same address with the name Gaiety Theatre and operated for three years. In 1858, the theatre took the name Varieties Theatre.  On December 2, 1870, a fire destroyed the stage, the building burned, and several people were killed. This broadside was printed during this era of the Varieties Theatre at Gravier Street.
• In December 1871, a new theatre opened under the same name at Canal, Sauphine, Custom House and Burgundy Streets. In 1879, there was a name change to the Grand Opera House, which remained open until 1906.
