The 287 Series is a limited express DC train developed by JR West based on the 683-4000 series. It is currently active on services such as "Kounotori" and "Kuroshio".

In 2025, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the "Kuroshio" limited express service, JR West introduced special wrapping trains. The 2nd version features a striking wave design around the headlights, extending from the front to the sides of the leading cars.
