Antique Mauchline Ware Sewing Kit & Sterling Thimble

This unusual antique Mauchline ware sewing kit is in the form of a column. It is made of sycamore wood, probably by the W. & A. Smith Co. of Mauchline Scotland. One side has a transfer print of "Salcombe-On-Sea, South Devon". This is a seaside resort town in southwest England. Inside the bottom it has a wooden needle case with wooden thread bobbins slipped over that. A sterling silver thimble sits on top. The top also opens and contains some glass-headed pins

The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or loss of the design. It has hardly a ding and the varnish is perfect with a glossy patina. It measures 4" high x 1 7/8" in diameter and everything fits together snugly. The silver thimble was made by James Fenton and has the English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1897. It's about an American size 8 (15.5 mm diameter opening). The condition is excellent, crisp and in round with no holes, dents or other damage.
