🏆 Takhion BsHA-001 (1988) – USSR Aero Road/TT Fork-Mount | Campagnolo Super Record | Fluidisk | Original Accessories

Frame No. 342

Description

Offered here is a 1988 Takhion BsHA-001, an original USSR-built aerodynamic road/time-trial bicycle constructed under the famous Takhion program.

This example carries frame number 342, stamped on the dropout, placing it within the late-1980s production period of the early fork-mount Takhions.

The BsHA-001 (БсХА-001) is the documented factory designation for the first-generation fork-mount Takhion, built at the Kharkov Aviation Institute (KhAI) — the aerospace engineering facility responsible for designing and producing Takhion bicycles for Soviet national and Olympic athletes.

This 1988 example retains its signature USSR fork-mounted bullhorn cockpit, aerodynamic tubing, and correct period equipment, making it a highly collectible and historically important piece.

Provenance & Historical Context

The Takhion program began in the early 1980s at the Kharkov Aviation Institute (Ukraine, USSR).

Engineers and technicians with aerospace backgrounds developed the BsHA-001 as one of the first Soviet aerodynamic TT/road platforms.

The model name BsHA-001 appears in early Soviet technical documents and stands for:

БсХА – База Специальная Харьковский Авиационный

(“Special Base – Kharkov Aviation”)

The BsHA-001 line was hand-made in extremely limited quantities, with each frame individually produced, fitted, and tested for national-team use. These bikes were never commercially sold inside or outside the Soviet Union.

The fork-mount cockpit was an early Soviet aerodynamic concept, developed well before Western TT bikes adopted integrated front ends.

Only a very small number of road/TT versions survive today compared to the more common pursuit/track variants.

Multiple former Soviet mechanics have confirmed that Campagnolo Super Record components were occasionally installed on late-1980s Takhions when the USSR cycling program gained access to imported Italian parts for international competition — matching this build.

Background Summary

The BsHA-001 represents the earliest generation of Takhion aerodynamic design: hand-built, aerospace-influenced, and produced only for elite Soviet racers.

Unlike Western brands such as Colnago, Cinelli, or De Rosa, Takhion frames emerged from aviation labs, not bicycle factories — resulting in some of the most distinctive and innovative designs of the Cold War cycling era.

This 1988, frame no. 342, is a genuine survivor — complete, mechanically functional, and equipped with historically correct components of the period.
