This unit suffered from "vinegar syndrome" (polarizer degradation), so I replaced the polarizers on both the front and back and converted the display to LED. The result is high contrast, excellent readability, and a beautiful appearance. It’s been a while since I looked at this model, and—if I do say so myself—it looks great. (Haha)
In addition to the LED conversion, the maintenance included my standard procedures:
・Added a heat sink to the driver IC.
・Added components to prevent damage to the final stage.
・Re-soldered areas prone to contact failure over time due to heat—specifically the ribbon cable connectors on the panel and large three-terminal components.
・Adjusted for slight frequency drift.
・Left the PLL trimmer untouched, as the frequency is stable.
Note: Resetting the unit defaults the brightness (BRIGHT) to 50%, which is too bright. I adjusted it to 5% to ensure good contrast and an overall beautiful display. This lower setting reduces the current flowing to the LEDs and lowers heat generation, thereby extending the LEDs' lifespan. I recommend the 5% brightness setting; it is plenty bright.
The lithium battery has been replaced with a new one.
It shows little sign of use and appears to be in excellent condition.
