Black’s General Atlas Of The World, 1876. Folio.
Complete with 56 maps & plates printed and coloured by J Bartholomew, Edinburgh. Published by A&C Black.
Binding in acceptable only condition. Gutter has split between the endpapers, prior to the title page, but the text block and map binding is sound. Half red Morocco binding is rubbed and the joints to the top of the spine are split. Slight lean on the top of the spine. Repairable.
The important part is that the maps and plates themselves are very good indeed, clean and smart.
There are a couple of small marginal (1-2cm) tears to some of the maps at the base of the fold on the double plates. A number - e.g. North America, Africa, China, Asia, Italy - have been secured in the binding with white cloth tape. This appears to have been done well and does not affect the surface of the maps themselves. The map showing the north of England and Wales has a strip of sellotape to the rear fold. This could be removed and does not show on the map surface
