George Herriman's Krazy Kat is considered a classic among American comic strip.

Cartoonist such as Charles M Shulz ( Peanuts)   Bill Watterson ( Calvin and Hobbs)  and Will Eisner( The Spirit ) have all named Herriman as an influence.

Although they were published on Sundays, these strips originally appeared  in black and white in the drama and art section of the Hearst Newspapers.

Krazy Kat would not appear in color on a regular basis until 1935.
