In the publisher's note, inserted in the sixth volume, it is stated " The prolongation of the war far beyond the calculation of those able to form an opinion on the subject, has necessarily affected the plan of Creswicke's ' South Africa and the Transvaal War.'" The author and publisher, however, " have decided to adhere closely to the plan of the work sketched in the original prospectus."
The volumes are profusely illustrated black and white and coloured engravings, and there are a number of excellent maps. Vol. VI. possesses a " Gazetteer " of South Africa, a biographical record of the " prominent actors connected with the African Campaign," and a list of the " Recipients of the Victoria Cross. Very good condition. Appear to have been rebound at some time, the 'blotchy' effect on the cloth appear to be intentional as the gilt line is on top of it on all volumes. A little light foxing. Previous owner stamp on the front free endpapers of all. Front hinge cracked in volume 6. Cloth frayed at the ends of the spines
