To play the Dan Moi, the musician gently
places the instrument against the lips and plucks the reed with a finger. The
vibration resonates through the mouth cavity, which acts as a natural sound
chamber.
By changing breathing, tongue position, and
mouth shape, players can create surprisingly complex melodies, rhythms, and
emotional expressions. Mastering the instrument requires breath control and
sensitivity to resonance, making each performance highly personal.
