Upgraded Drainage valve brass plunger pin replacement for Jura Exhaust Valve
This aftermarket brass/copper plunger pin (with a molded mushroom gasket and O-ring) used to permanently repair the brew group drainage/drain valve (often translated as the exhaust valve) in superautomatic espresso machines.
The original factory component is made of white plastic, which is highly notorious for snapping or wearing down at the neck over time, causing water to leak directly into the drip tray instead of brewing coffee. Because of this, the original individual pin cannot be purchased separately from Jura as a single OEM part.
Inside the machine’s drainage valve, a metal push-rod (actuated by a solenoid motor) repeatedly hits the end of this plunger to open and close the valve during cycles.
The Weak Point: The original factory pin is made of white POM plastic. Over years of thermal cycles, exposure to coffee oils, and constant mechanical hammering, the thin neck of the plastic pin snaps.
The Symptom: When it snaps, the red mushroom gasket can no longer seal. Hot water and steam bypass the brewing chamber entirely, pumping dry coffee grounds into your dump bin and dumping all the liquid directly into the bottom drip tray.
Infinite Lifespan: Brass will not snap, crack, or warp under the mechanical hammering or high brewing temperatures (You will likely never have to open the drainage valve for a broken pin again.
Serviceable Gaskets: Because the brass threads or locks firmly, if the red mushroom gasket or black O-ring wears out in 5 years, you can simply pull them off the brass pin and slide new rubber rings on, rather than replacing the whole assembly.
To install this brass upgrade, you have to perform a partial rebuild of your machine's brew group:
Accessing the Valve: You must open the machine casing (which requires a special Jura Oval Head Tool to remove the security screws) and pull out the entire black plastic Brew Group assembly. The drainage valve is located at the very bottom of the brew group.
Opening the Valve: Gently unclip the drainage valve housing to expose the internal spring and the broken plastic plunger piece.
Lubrication is Key: Before dropping the new brass pin in, lightly coat the black rubber O-ring with food-grade silicone grease. Do not lubricate the red mushroom tip, as it needs a clean surface to seal against the plastic seat.
Spring Alignment: Make sure the internal valve spring sits flush and centered over the tail end of the brass pin when you slide it back into the housing.
Once rebuilt and installed, the mechanical action will feel much crisper, and your coffee volume extraction will return to factory standards.
