American Heritage: the Magazine of History, Bound, Vol XI, Complete set No. 1-6, Dec 1959-Oct 1960

This is a complete set of all six consecutive issues for Vol XI. I rescued these this as part of a larger lot and will be adding listings for the others in lots by year.

American Heritage is a magazine dedicated to covering the history of the United States for a mainstream readership. It started in 1949 as a publication of the American Association for State and Local History, a combined scope for the general public with features geared to educators and historians. In 1954, AASLH sold the magazine to a quartet of writers and editors from Time, Inc. including Pulitzer Prize-winning historian of the Civil War Bruce Catton. They formed the American Heritage Publishing Company and introduced the hardcover, 120-page advertising-free "magazine" with Volume 6, Number 1 in December 1954. Each year begins in December and continues through the following October, published every other month

Condition: Good. I rescued these from a garage where they weren’t particularly well stored. They have a faint musty smell that is dissipating with fresh air and baking soda. As shown, there is a lot of staining/foxing on the cover boards and heavy tanning on endpapers and some tanning and/or staining on some pages. Any notable tears or chips specific to individual issues have been photographed. However, the books are structurally very good: text and art on boards is still nice, hinges and binding solid, text and interior art vibrant. The color images inside are particularly striking. If the covers matched the interior these would be VG.
