The Hummingbird, born in 1960, was Gibson's first square-shouldered dreadnought acoustic guitar.
In the 1970s, Gibson transitioned from round-shouldered to square-shouldered guitars, marking a period of transformation.
The Hummingbird and the Dove, born in 1962, laid the groundwork for this change.
Originally designed for vocal accompaniment, the Hummingbird's sweet, soft sound, commonly known as the "honey tone," blended well with vocals, making it a highly valued model among folk singers at the time.
This is the current Hummingbird Standard, in the long-awaited VCS (Vintage Cherry Sunburst) color, which made a comeback in 2024.
The body is all solid wood, with a Sitka spruce top and mahogany sides and back—classic specifications.
The top features a 3-pointed pickguard adorned with a hummingbird design.
The familiar specifications include a dovetail neck joint with hide glue, scalloped X-bracing, and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish (gloss).
The pickup is an L.R. Baggs Element VTC, with volume and tone controls located at the soundhole edge.
*Please note that due to the handmade nature of the lacquer finish, there may be some unevenness in the paint film, as well as polishing marks such as hairline cracks and buzz marks.
