Antique German damask linen roll cloth (Jacquard weave)
Origin: Germany | Early 20th century (circa 1900–1920)
Woven damask linen / Jacquard weave (not handwoven)
Color: ecru / cream with red woven borders
Pictorial motifs, borders and the word “Rolltuch” are fully woven – not printed
Scenic laundry motif with sun and decorative elements
Unused and unwashed, original starch finish (appretur) still present
Firm handle with a beautiful natural sheen
Size:
Approx. 34 in wide × 118 in long
(= approx. 86 × 300 cm)
Condition:
Very good original antique condition.
There is one small, clearly visible area in the weave, identified as an original weaving flaw caused by a thread ending during the weaving process.
This is not related to use or wear, as the roll cloth was never in service.
The fabric remains stable; if desired, the area can be secured with a few stitches (see photos).
Original use:
Traditional German linen roll cloth (Mangeltuch) for laundry mangles.
Today suitable as:
Table runner, table covering, wall hanging or decorative textile.
