This is a fantastic survivor from the 1970s: a vintage Cox Dune Buggy featuring the highly desirable orange "glimmer" metal-flake body. This tether-style car is a classic piece of gas-powered hobby history, capturing the spirit of the era with its vibrant, sparkling finish and iconic design.
The orange glitter body is in excellent structural shape, showing no cracks or major damage, which is quite rare for these plastic-bodied vehicles. It maintains a brilliant high-gloss shine and comes complete with the silver roll bar, black bucket seats, steering wheel, and the original "California BAY COX" license plate.
Please note: This example is missing several of its smaller aesthetic detail parts, including the side mirror, the gearshift lever, the tail light lenses, and the dual exhaust tailpipes. These are missing as shown in the photos, though the body itself remains solid and uncracked.
Powering this buggy is a rear-mounted Cox .049 gas engine. Mechanically, the engine turns over freely and feels to have good compression. The transmission functions smoothly without any visible issues. While the mechanical components operate as they should and the compression is strong, I have not attempted to start or run the engine; it is being sold as-found.
The car sits on its original "Cox Special" rubber tires. The front tires are in good condition, while the larger rear balloon tires show some distortion and flattening from long-term storage - why will probably need to be replaced. This is a common occurrence with original Cox rubber.
