  Match Attax England was the first ‘Match Attax Trading Card Game’ issued by Topps, being released for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. It featured 175 cards, 24 cards for the English squad the remaining 151 for the leading players from the other countries involved. These included Messi, Cech, Zidane, Henry, Van Der Sar, Robben, Sneijder, Van Persie, Drogba, Ronaldo, Xavi, and Torres.
 
Packets were priced at 33p for 5 cards plus glossy paper inserts randomly placed for Checklists (3), How to Order and How to Play. The cards were an unusual shape with the top half offset to the bottom half, so you could line up the Defence and Attack ratings.
 
An update card for Theo Walcott was issued when he was called up into England’s World Cup Squad this was only available in the July 2006 issue number 74 of Official PlayStation 2 Magazine. A further six cards were also issued ‘Legends’ they were Pele, Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona, George Best, Franz Beckenbauer and Bobby Moore.
 
There was no binder or folder to house the cards.
