Welcome to the TatungBytes ‘Tatung Einstein Z80 Assembly’ Course.
These guides are your hands-on introduction to game development on the Tatung Einstein, a powerful Z80-based home computer from the 1980s. Whether you’re here for nostalgia, curiosity, or to build low level skills from scratch, these guides are designed for you.
No prior technical or programming background is required. Everything is broken down step by step in plain English. We’ll start with something simple, displaying a word on screen, and gradually build towards creating working programs and games.
Why This Matters
Understanding Z80 assembly gives you direct control over a classic computer. It’s a chance to see how numbers become characters, how instructions drive hardware, and how real-time systems work. Along the way, you’ll learn the roots of many modern computing concepts.

We are trying to get new games onto the Tatung Einstein TC01 & 256 computers.
. What games would be of interest if we were to find machine coders to port 8 bit classic games over onto the Tatung Einstein?
Please contact me or email me your ideas from the website:
The Einstein is an undervalued machine - I am open to any old time classic programmers or new up and coming coders around the world who many have their brilliant games established within the 8bit world ( ZX spectrum, Amstrad, MSX, C64, BBC, etc)
-but would like to see a new lease of life on the Einstein. There is a number of Einstein owners around the world 🌍 limited to the back catalogue but I would bet they who would love to see the Einstein used to its true potential.
I am also looking for enthusiasts who are skilled in programming on the Tatung Einstein to contact me to help keep the machine and software going for another 40 years.......
My aim is to looking at expanding the collection of gaming software for this machine.
Any new games would be appreciated by the Tatung community which can utilises the ability of this machine.
If won overseas then please do not make pay until I can work out the true postage charge for your country.
Any question relating to the Tatung Einstein will be answered as best as I can .
If you also have any interest in the Einstein items then please contact me to see what else I have in my collection for Sale
