Is a deciduous tree from the birch family. Native to Eastern United States, from New Hampshire to Texas.


Used commonly as an ornamental for its beautiful red peeling bark and additional trunks. It produces 2-3" catkins in late summer and remain through winter. The leaves turn variations of red and yellow in fall. It has many medicinal qualities as well, there are uses for the sweet sap, leaves, twigs and bark.
