The cut logs are then rough milled into slabs, cookies, etc. After they are cut, we carefully stack them in a dry, forced ventilated and temp controlled facility to reach ideal workable moisture content of 10% or less. -TDS Proprietary Grading Scale: This scale is used in house by TDS as a guideline for evaluating each piece. Please refer to the extensive pictures we list for the best determination of quality for each piece.

5) Master Grade: Nearly flawless! Extremely intense grain pattern, figuring, burl, crotch, etc. If a spalted variety, spalt will be heavy and intense. Will be firm, no 'punky' (soft) areas. *Spalted varieties may have very minor punk. Only a small percent make this grade!
4) High Grade: Very minimal flaws, cracks, checks, etc. Intense grain and figuring. Intense spalt if applicable. Little to no 'punky' areas. These are excellent quality pieces!
3) Mid/High Grade: May have a moderate amount of flaws, cracks, checks, etc. Light to moderate 'punky' (soft) areas. If punky spots exist, the piece will not also have moderate flaws (one or the other in this grade). Pieces will have nice grain and figuring but not as pronounced as High Grade. Very much usable and desirable pieces.
2) Mid Grade: May have a fair amount of flaws, cracks, etc. May have moderate to heavy 'punky' spots. This grade may have moderate punky areas AND some flaws. Usable pieces but may require stabilization.
1) Low Grade: Will have fair to significant amount of flaws, cracks, etc. Will have a significant amount of 'punky' areas. These pieces may have a combination of significant flaws and punky areas. While still usable for many projects, these pieces may be hard to work with and most likely will require stabilization.
