ABOUT THE BAG
The Garden Party was born in 1964 as a bag designed to carry gardening tools — sturdy, open, unpretentious, made to be thrown in the trunk of a car and pulled back out without ceremony. It is one of the few Hermès designs that was never meant to impress. It was meant to work. And in working, it became one of the house's most enduring objects — the bag chosen by women who already have everything and simply want something that does its job beautifully.
This is a bag about color. Olive canvas paired with deep brown Clemence leather is a combination that does not appear in every season — it belongs to that category of Hermès palette decisions that feel inevitable only in retrospect. The warmth of the brown against the muted military green creates a depth that a simpler colorway cannot. It is the palette of the countryside, of autumn light, of a bag that knows exactly where it belongs and does not need to announce it.
ABOUT THE DESIGN
The Garden Party 26 is the most compact expression of the design — intimate in proportion, precise in structure, generous enough to carry the essentials without the weight of a larger tote. The Toile Officier canvas body is reinforced at every stress point with Clemence leather trim — handles, base, and side panels. The Clou de Selle snap closure in palladium silver sits at the center of the flap, a detail borrowed directly from Hermès' equestrian heritage. The side snaps allow the bag to expand or close according to what it carries. The double rolled handles are wrapped in deep brown leather — the same leather that frames the body — creating a unity of material that is one of the hallmarks of Hermès' approach to design.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
Toile Officier canvas is woven specifically for Hermès — a dense, abrasion-resistant cotton constructed to age without deteriorating, to hold its color, to resist the daily pressures of genuine use. The Clemence calfskin trim is hand-stitched to the canvas with the saddle stitch technique that Hermès has used since its origins as a harness maker in 1837. Each Clou de Selle button is cast individually in palladium-plated metal. The handles are rolled by hand and stitched along their length. This is a tote built to last decades, not seasons.

CONDITION
Good condition with minimal signs of use. The canvas retains its structure and color throughout. The Clemence leather handles and trim remain supple with no cracking or significant wear. Hardware is clean and functional. The interior is clean. There are slight fabric discolorations on the interior side panels, visible only when the side expansion snaps are fully opened — not visible in normal use or from the exterior. A bag that has been used with care and stored correctly.
