Vargas is an ascending prospect at 140 pounds and among the most popular young fighters in the sport. He is the youngest of three boxing sons of former world champion Fernando “El Feroz” Vargas, who also serves as his head trainer.
After turning pro in May 2022, he signed with Top Rank later that year and made his promotional debut with a second-round KO over Julio Martinez. He graduated to eight-rounders in 2024, and in September of that year, he knocked out Larry Fryers in an eye-opening ESPN-televised showcase.
Vargas scored three early-round stoppages to begin his 2025 campaign, including a first-round KO over Ecuador's Alexander Espinoza. He closed out the year by notching a 10-round unanimous decision over Jonathan Montrel to earn the WBO Latino belt.
