1978's "Peter And The Wolf" is a classical music album in which Bowie lends his voice as narrator to Sergei Prokofiev's 1936 composition. The music is by the Philadelphia Orchestra under the direction of Eugene Ormandy. The album reached number 136 on the US Pop Album Charts at the time.
The A side contains Bowie's story, while on the B side Ormandy and the orchestra perform Benjamin Britten's "Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra". Critics praised the album. Bowie tells the story with his characteristic eloquence and style, providing early clues for children on how the music relates to the story's characters.
