Strelets 1/72 WWII British Long Range Desert Group
Plastic Figures
20mm Scale
Ref: STRM144
Brand new and unpainted.
The kit includes 52 figures in 13 poses moulded in light tan coloured plastic with 4 figures of each pose all of which capture perfectly a fine collection of WWII LRDG troops in North Africa.
The LRDG was set up in mid 1940 in North Africa with a primary aim of gathering intelligence behind enemy lines. Although, given their mastery of mechanised reconnaissance and desert navigation, their role was soon expanded to offensive action against the Germans including providing support and transport for the SAS conducting raids deep inside of enemy territory - mainly against aircraft and supply dumps.
While LRDG activity was mainly covert, this collection depicts the figures armed with the 0.303 short magazine Lee Enfield rifle, Thompson sub machine gun, Bren light machine gun and Lewis gun.
Uniforms are as would be expected, less formal and more practical, for raiding where soldiers had free rein to chose whatever was most suitable for the conditions. Poses are mostly passive and indicate soldier on patrol.
There is a review of these figures on the Plastic Soldier Review.
Whether for wargaming custom scenarios or just for display this brand new kit is a beauty. Not to be missed.
